Hi, I’m Dave
AN Artist From Detroit.
My journey into the arts was sparked early in life by the creative flair of my mother and the nurturing guidance of my family. My grandfather and great-aunt would take me into the forest, teaching me not only to observe and paint but also to tell a story in my work. These formative experiences instilled in me a lifelong passion for storytelling through many mediums.
As an award-winning Creative Director and filmmaker, I have spent the past 20 years crafting compelling narratives that explore the human experience. My documentary films delve into the lives of cultural icons such as Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Cecil Taylor, earning recognition for their evocative storytelling and artistic vision.
I honed my artistic muscle at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, where I discovered my love for urban landscapes and their raw beauty. During my time in Detroit, I became a member of the art collective Der Lärm, creating immersive works in the city’s abandoned buildings and exploring themes of decay, resilience, and renewal.
As a painter, my recent series focusing on the homeless crisis has brought attention to critical social issues, blending empathy with artistic exploration. This series was showcased at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, NJ, and some of my work was also chosen to grace the cover of the Quillan annual report. These milestones further solidify my commitment to challenging and inspiring through my art. A proud member of the South Orange Arts Council, I continue to support and foster creativity within my community.
Most recently, I have turned my vision toward Quillan, France, where I have renovated a historic building to create an artist workshop and residency. Set to open in the spring, this space will serve as a haven for artists to connect, create, and immerse themselves in the beauty of the French countryside.
Rooted in storytelling, community, and a deep appreciation for the world around me, I strive to inspire through my art and remain dedicated to meaningful expression.

My Latest Work
I find beauty in the decay of objects, people, and places, uncovering stories in their imperfections. My sketchbooks are my diary, where I embrace and celebrate mistakes as part of the creative process.
